The Southern Cone is a geographic region in South America located east of the Andes Mountains and south of the Tropic of Capricorn that encompasses Argentina, Uruguay and Southern Brazil. It’s people are primarily of European descent and are considered to be mostly least-reached.
I am always encouraged when I hear stories of how God is at work in the lives of the leaders we get to work with around the world. I was talking with my dear friend Rolly from the Philippines this week and I realized that I needed to share his story with you. Rolly’s story is one of many, but it’s a really good story, so enjoy and be encouraged!
2020 got off to a strong start with ministry in Pakistan and two different locations in France…then came Covid. While the pandemic has hindered our ability to travel globally, it hasn’t kept us from moving the mission forward!
Taking New Ground has been working in India for two years. We’ve also been training a team there to reproduce our ministry model all over the region. I was recently in a video call with our India team and heard a couple of very encouraging stories that I wanted to share with you.
Over the past couple of years Taking New Ground has had the opportunity to work with a passionate and sacrificial group of leaders from a restricted access nation near Thailand. We have the opportunity to visit these leaders again in person this November. They face some of the greatest persecution that I’ve seen anywhere, yet the church thrives. But, what happens if you add to that a global pandemic? I’m glad you asked.

This month we gathered for two days with some of our key movement leaders from the US, India, Pakistan, Kenya, Nigeria, Mexico, Albania, Macedonia, England, Australia and the Philippines. We talked about the situation on the ground in different parts of the world, and we learned how each region is doing in terms of stabilizing and mobilizing their churches. We shared with one another, we learned from one another, and we prayed for one another.

An uncertain future is unfolding with the advent of the coronavirus pandemic. Church leaders around the world are realizing that they have to start looking beyond surviving the first couple of weeks and start planning for the next 90 days, but how? Where do they begin? Now more than ever, community is key!
Western Europe was once the center of worldwide Christian missions. This region has been saturated with the message of Christianity and the influence of the church longer, and with more intensity, than any other region of the world.
