I recently listened to a message from a professor I had my first semester in seminary. The first time I heard him teach on this subject it really opened my eyes to a broader calling than I originally realized we all have as followers of Christ. Hearing him teach on this subject has always inspired and compelled me to follow Christ more fully, so I wanted to share it with you.
William Carey started out as an uneducated shoe cobbler with an unshakeable conviction about the Great Commission’s obligation that all Christians “make disciples of the nations” (Matthew 28:18-20). Today he is generally referred to as the Father of Modern Missions.
This is Skopje, the capital of Macedonia. Macedonia is 0.2% to 0.5% Evangelical Christian. There are literally more Christians in some mega churches in America than there are in this entire country.
This past week my mentor and team lead Joe Wilson and I met up with most of the New Thing Global Catalyst team in Orlando. We also had several of the leaders we work with from Thailand, the Philippines, and Uganda in attendance. It was a great opportunity for our team and our leaders to network, build relationships, and plan for the future.
Our team met Kerlyn last year during our Catalyst Community conference. Kerlyn lives in a community where 9 out of 10 people work in the cigar industry. To most Dominican churches tobacco industry workers are “sinners” who must change their ways before they are welcome in church, but not to Kerlyn, and not to Jesus. Kerlyn has baptized 13 people in the past year!
